Detailed Itinerary
What we Provide
Two of the most scenic and charming areas in all of Italy can be found in the nearby peaks and ridges of Italy’s northern Alps and along the Mediterranean coast of Cinque Terre. In the magnificent Alps, we’ll walk to alpine lakes surrounded by deep pine forests, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, and savor picnic lunches by plunging waterfalls. Then we’ll travel to the quiet and remote fishing villages of the Cinque Terre, offering a variety of dramatic walks along cliffs overlooking the coastline of the Mediterranean. “The Five Lands” of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore bring to life the ancient architecture of Italy’s earlier inhabitants. Here, where the mountains dive down into the sea, we’ll explore quaint villages, stroll through fragrant olive groves and terraced vineyards, and relax along sunny beaches and in secluded coves.

Day 1 - Milan to Ceresole... After introductions, we’ll head to the small mountain village of Ceresole Reale. Located at an elevation of 5,200 feet, Ceresole Reale sits on the side of a small alpine lake and offers us a relaxing setting for our first day in Italy. In the evening, we will enjoy a welcome dinner and orientation. D
Day 2 - Alps: Pian del Nivolet... Today, surrounded by peaks soaring to elevations over 13,000 ft., we’ll amble along a plateau at 8,000 feet, all the while keeping our eyes peeled for ibex, chamois, wild goats, golden eagles, and marmots. Three are gorgeous views of the mountains and meandering stream in the valley below. Blue alpine lakes, towering waterfalls, and crystalline rivers are everywhere, with several alpine huts and lots of Ibex visible. This is a relaxing day. 6 miles, 900 feet ascent. B, L, D
Day 3 - Alps: GTA to Noasca... The pace picks up a bit today as our walk takes us along an ancient track, through magnificent meadows and woodlands. We’ll hike a broad valley full of old, abandoned mountain villages, and stopping to sample some of the area’s finest local cheeses produced at elevations over 8,000 feet. The group will be split in two, according to people’s strength. Easy trail: 5 miles, 1000 feet elevation gain. Average diff. Trail: 10 miles, 1500 feet ascent, 2000 feet descent.

Coming back, we can assist to the old, traditional way of making mountain cheese; those that wish can also buy some of this exquisite delicacy! From 4 to 7 miles, from 600 to 1200 feet elevation gain. B, L, D

Day 8 - Monterosso - Vernazza... From Monterosso we will walk along the “ Blue Trail”, an ancient footpath along terraces of grape vines and olive trees leading to Vernazza, an ancient fishing village on the edge of the sea.
