The land is lovely, green
and glistening, rough and rolling. But
the real reason to visit Ireland is to
come face-to-face and heart-to-heart
with the Irish people. From our
experience, the local folk in this rural
area are the most pleasant you can
find. Our trip begins in the charming
village of Doolin, known as the folk
music capital of Ireland; then we head
northeast along the coast to Galway with
a visit to Inishmore, the largest of the
Aran Islands. We spend evenings in the
pubs and nights in delightful,
family-run bed and breakfasts. Our
hikes on storied footpaths and medieval
trackways take us to famed locales such
as Kylemore Abbey, Killary Harbor and
The Twelve Bens. Thanks to the
hospitality of the Irish, you are in for
a special time in this magical land
where kelpies and leprechauns still
roam.

Best of the Best
Mythic landscape The limestone cliffs, bright green hills, misty coasts and dark, rich bogs step out of legend into plain view.
Irish evenings Share stories, songs, and rich Irish brews in the warm, evening glow of a pub. All to the sound of an Irish bodrhan and a gentle Gaelic lilt.
Dun Aengus of Inishmore
The forbidding walls of this ancient fortress sit
atop cliffs that loom over the pounding surf of a
deep blue sea. It’s a lonely haunt for ghosts 5000
years old. |

Days 1-3 Shannon – Doolin – Cliffs of Moher A “Top of the mornin’ ” hearty Irish breakfast inaugurates our trip. Driving out from Shannon, we stop at Craggaunowen Project for a look at Iron Age Ireland, then off to Quin Abbey through rolling countryside. We stay in Doolin for a spell, the folk music capital of Ireland. Our local guide, Christy Browne, leads us along the Cliffs of Moher. We cut turf in a peat bog at Martin Barry’s farm and wander the rock formations and wildflowers of the Burren. By day we visit ring forts and ruins; by night we dine in pubs, entertained with folk songs and step dancing.
Days 4-6
Galway-Innishmore-Dun Aengus
From Doolin we head to Galway for a guided city walk
before ferrying across Galway Bay to Innishmore,
largest of the Aran Islands replete with all that is
best in Irish landscapes, historical artifacts and
Celtic heritage, including a walk to Dun Aengus, an
ancient bronze age fort balanced on the edge of a
cliff 300-feet over the ocean.
Days 7-10
Connemara-Kylemore
Lake-Killary Harbor
Hike to the Twelve Bens in beautiful Connemara
National Park, enjoy a tranquil visit to Kylemore
Abbey and walk along the “western way” at Killary
harbor. Relax in the evenings at the charming Pass
Inn and enjoy some of the best of Celtic music in
the pubs. Head to Shannon for a farewell evening of
laughter and song at a medieval banquet at Bunratty
Castle in Shannon.
