Days 1-4       Day 5-8       Day 9-10

Enter a world where vibrant landscape brings literature to life and ancient history follows every path.  The northwest of England is a treasure trove of walks through luscious green hills crisscrossed with rock walled pastures dotted with sheep, gorse-covered moors, shining lakes and brilliant flowers in every corner.  Come follow the steps of William and Dorothy Wordsworth and their close friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge as we visit the local haunts of Grasmere and Keswick in the breathtaking Lake District.  Experience the magnificent limestone scenery of the Yorkshire Dales, a land of Roman ruins, prehistoric carvings, and quaint villages complete with teashops and pubs perfect for meeting the locals.  It’s a breathtaking region that inspired the greatest of the Romantic poets—it’s certain to inspire you.

Adventure Trips: EnglandBest of the Best

The Lake District
Its beauty is breathtaking; its history renowned.  An enchanting land of green hills, tranquil lakes, paths framed with wood violets, bluebells, rhododendrons, clematis and daffodils.

Teashops and Pub
What’s your pleasure?  High tea?   Scones, biscuits or chips?  Or a quiet spot in the corner of a dark pub, sipping a well-aged brew?  We’ll find your preference in every village.

Malham Cove
Hike past the spectacular cliffs of Malham Cove to the top of Malham Tarn for a look at the region’s unique “limestone pavement,” chalk-white domes that cap the Moors, formed there by the Ice Age and years of wind and weather.

Adventure Trips: England
Days 1-4  Manchester-Ilkley Moors-Bolton Abbey-River Wharfe-Malham

We begin our hikes in England’s Yorkshire Dales with walks through the wild and mysterious Ilkley Moors to the White Well, along the beautiful River Wharfe, past medieval Bolton Abbey  to the former Royal hunting lodge at Barden Tower, to the classic Dales village of Malham, the waterfall at Janet’s Foss and the dramatic scenery of Gordale Scar.  Of course what would a day be without afternoon tea and a visit to the local pubs?

Days 5-8  Grasmere-Dove Cottage-Rydal Mount-Keswick-Derwentwater

England’s Lake District, a land of gentle beauty, history and charm.  Our walks take us to Grasmere and to Wordsworth’s homes at Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, into the rolling green countryside and Loughrigg Tarn, to the typical lakes village of Rosthwaite in Borrowdale and to dramatic Lodore Falls.  Theatre buffs can enjoy an optional visit to the evening theatre at Keswick’s Theatre By The Lake. High English tea in Watendlath and Grange.

Days 9-10  Beatrix Potter’s Hawkshead-Brantwood-Manchester

Our final full day includes a visit to Hawkshead, of Beatrix Potter fame and home of the Beatrix Potter Museum, or if you choose, to the home of Victorian artist, critic and social reformer John Ruskin where you’ll want to sample the sticky toffee pudding, a Lake District specialty.  A classical reading of some of England’s finest poetry tops our final night’s dinner in Manchester.
