Detailed Itinerary
What we Provide
The coast of Maine is never more beautiful than in autumn. The water is deep blue, the colors of the bayberry and the blueberry bushes turn to fire against the sky and the ocean. We walk on Monhegan Island, on headlands perched above the coast, and find sea glass on the rocky mainland beaches. Starting out from Camden, we enjoy a sail on Penobscot Bay and take a walk up Mount Battie, then spend time getting to know delightful Bar Harbor and beautiful Acadia National Park. We feast on lobsters, clams and luscious Maine blueberries. We rise early one morning for the nation’s first sunrise and witness nature cloaking herself in fall’s colors. Leading the trip are native “Mainiacs” who love to talk about Maine and say “Ayuh” a lot.

Best of the Best
Fall Colors A riot of color blankets every view from the sunrise off the granite brow of Cadillac Mountain to the fir-scented walks in Bar Harbor.
Lobster Fresh, served up all-you-can-eat by Dennis and Jody at the Blue Harbor House. Corn-on-the-cob, potato salad and Maine blueberry pie make this New England feast worthy of a walker’s appetite.
“Mainiacs” Meet the folk that tap the sugar maples, set the lobster cages and eat their apples baked. They love to sit in the evenings to “share a cup” and make you feel at home.

This itinerary may be changed at the discretion of the trip leader.
( B = Breakfast included, L = Lunch included, D = Dinner included )
Pre-trip... We recommend that you plan to arrive at least one day in advance. Not only will you be ready and well rested, this allows you to explore some on your own. The Holiday Inn, 404 Odlin Rd., Bangor, ME 04401, Phone 800-914-010, offers a courtesy shuttle from the airport.
Day 1... Our trip begins at 9:00 am at the Holiday Inn. From there we'll head southwest to Camden, Maine, and Penobscot Bay for our first three days of exploration. After checking in and lacing up our boots, we'll explore the local harbor and enjoy a fabulous 2-hour sail on Penobscot Bay where we’ll keep a lookout for whales, seals and bald eagles. Our activities will help build up an appetite for an all-you-can eat lobster feast. And we do mean feast! Jody and Dennis, our hosts at the Blue Harbor Inn, will serve us fresh whole Maine lobsters, corn-on-the-cob, fresh potato salad, and homemade ice cream. What a way to get to know Maine and your fellow participants. L, D
Day 2... We'll start early this morning with a short drive south to Port Clyde, where we’ll board the "Elisabeth Ann," the mail ferry to Monhegan Island. Be sure to keep a lookout for whales and seals on the way! Monhegan is a small island well known for its spectacular coastal walks and talented artists. Free evening in town with plenty of time to sample Camden's great restaurants. B, L, D
Day 3... Today we'll explore the hills around Camden, stand atop the summit of Mt. Battie, marvel in the beauty of Camden Harbor and Penobscot Bay, and hike the Megunticook Mountain Ridge Trail. Lunch will be enjoyed atop a large granite outcropping near the summit of Mt. Megunticook that affords unforgettable views of the ocean and surrounding hillsides. Total hiking mileage: approximately 6 miles.
B, L, D
Day 4... We transfer today to Bar Harbor, where a visit to Acadia's Visitor Center helps us get acquainted with the area. Our local Maine guide leads us down some of the park's most beautiful trails, including Sand Beach and Great Head. B, L, D
Day 5 Acadia National Park... Weather will decide the order of the next two days spectacular hikes. Cadillac Mountain will provide splendid views of the Maine coast and the brilliant foliage on the surrounding hillsides. We'll follow the north ridge trail 2.2 miles to the summit of Cadillac, where we'll enjoy a leisurely lunch before descending 3.7 miles down the south ridge trail, Acadia’s longest ridge. B, L
Day 6... Today we are treated to more incredible views as we travel through a black spruce forest on our way to the Amphitheater and Cedar Swamp Mountain. At 942 feet, Cedar Swamp may not sound like much of a mountain, but the views of the Cranberry Islands and the Atlantic Ocean will make you feel on top of the world. The blazing red blueberry bushes offer a wonderful contrast to the vivid blue sky and ocean in the distance. We emerge from the wilderness and suddenly find ourselves in the English gardens of Thula’s gardens. B, L, D
Day 7... After a short morning walk, we'll drive back to Bangor to connect with our flights home. Flights may be booked to leave any time after 12:00 noon. B
