New Mexico—it’s the simple grace of pale adobe walls against a turquoise blue sky; the mouth-watering smell of chilis and hot tamales drifting across a crowded plaza; the incredible beauty of a high mountain meadow filled with wildflowers—red Indian paintbrush, blue phlox, and white bedstraw.  The region northwest of Santa Fe offers an incredible variety of walks through high alpine forests under the shadows of the Sangre de Cristos, over rugged canyon and mesa country dotted with Pinon Pine, and down quiet, shaded Spanish-style avenues.  From the above timberline heights of Wheeler Peak to the winding streets of the living museum called Santa Fe, experience a land made incredibly rich by the intersection of Native American, Spanish, Mexican and Anglo-American cultures.  Come see why New Mexico truly is the Land of Enchantment.

Adventure Trips: New Mexico Jemez StreamBest of the Best

Rio Grande Gorge
Known by the locals as “the Rio Grande Box,” this stunning canyon cuts a magnificent gash into the desert chaparral country northwest of Taos.  Hike down its cool depths past ancient pictographs and the churning rapids of the mighty Rio Grande.

Bandalier National Monument
Explore the haunted heights of these prehistoric Pueblo cliff dwellings, breathtaking in both their ingenious design and setting, against the backdrop of an impossibly blue New Mexico sky.

Culture
From the Native American dwellings at Taos, to the art galleries of Santa Fe’s Canyon Road and the Spanish Colonial villages of Chimayo and Truchas high in the Sangre de Cristos, New Mexico’s cultural heritage is an American crown jewel.

Adventure Trips: New Mexico Taos Pueblo
Days 1-2  Taos-Rio Grande Gorge-Jicarita Peak

New Mexico will enchant you.  The light of the high plateaus, the mountain scenery, the living history, both ancient and modern, the art, the architecture and the fine regional cuisine will delight you.  It all begins in Taos with our native guide taking us through historic Taos Pueblo, a U.N. World Heritage Site, and sharing his knowledge with us.  Then spend a day exploring the wonders of the mighty Rio Grande Gorge whether on the rim and the desert chaparral or down into the cool depths of the gorge itself.

Days 3-4  Chimayo-Bandalier National Monument-Georgia O’Keefe-Abiquiu

We hike into the heart of Bandelier National Monument, through canyons and past cascading waterfalls to superbly preserved 900-year old Anasazi cliff dwellings. Visit the historic village of Chimayo, famous for its weavings and a chapel known for its similarity to Lourdes.  Visit the home of famed New Mexico artist Georgia O’Keeffe and hike the canyons and forests on her Ghost Ranch.

Days 5-7  Santa Fe-Tent Rocks-Palace of the Governors

Nature and Culture, the best of it all.  Explore the spectacular adobe architecture of Santa Fe, including the renowned Palace of the Governors, stroll the flower filled courtyards, admire the world-class art in the plazas and explore the unusual rock formations at Tent Rocks Recreation Area.  We’ll end this enchanted journey with a farewell dinner you’ll long remember.
