I recently toured Costa Rica with my Mom on Ward Luthi’s Walking The World trip. It was a very fun time for both of us. Costa Rica is a beautiful country with lots of beautiful flora and wildlife to see. What made the trip so memorable was Ward’s planning and attention to detail. Ward has been in the adventure travel business for a very long time, and his experience shows. Ward carefully selects the itinerary, and the details. There was a comfortable mix of hiking, sightseeing, socializing and just plain fun. Ward has really struck the balance between his trips being educational, healthy and spiritually refreshing. In my mind, that is what makes a good trip leader.
I think I laughed more on this trip than I have in the last few years. So yes, see Costa Rica, it has lots to offer. The most important thing is to see it with Ward Luthi’s Walking the World.

Dear Walking The World, When I initially visited your web site and clicked on 'Trips of a Lifetime' I really had no idea of how that expression would translate for my first visit to Costa Rica. Since returning from the 11 day/10 night trip to Costa Rica, I can now testify that this truly was a 'Trip of a Lifetime'. I think that I speak for my fellow travelers from the Wasatch (Utah) Mountain Club when I say that my first Walking The World adventure travel experience far exceeded my expectations. The local guide and driver who were with us each day were incredibly knowledgeable about the wildlife, environment and the history and future of Costa Rica. I particularly liked learning about the emphasis that Costa Rica places on protecting their glorious environment as a top national priority and, at the same time, sharing it with others. Visiting the coffee plantations, eco-centers, dairy farm, hanging bridges, local families and farmers, humid forest, volcanos, beaches and rain forests was fantastic. It isn't every day that one can choose between walking on the beach, hiking in a national park, dining/shopping or taking a canopy (zip line) tour through the treetops! The accommodations were perfect for our group and I loved the diversity of the charming cottages and the beach front resort that you chose for us. Most importantly, I must thank you for the opportunity that you gave us to contribute school supplies and soccer equipment to the children of Santa Lucia. I will never forget the looks on the faces of the children, their parents and their teachers as they graciously accepted our gifts. It is my personal goal to continue to help this community as they work to expand their school, soccer program and church with the gifts and donations that we provided. Please 'sign me up' to travel to Costa Rica with Walking The World again this year and let me know how I can encourage others to join me in the future. Everyone should experience this as their 'Trip of a Lifetime'!

Walking the World in Costa Rica offers a plethora of diversity enabling participants to immerse themselves in the country's natural and cultural environments. Oskar, our native guide on the January 22 - February 1, 2007 trip, shared his love and knowledge of his land and its people during an itinerary described in the website. Persons adverse to camping and self-prepared food will enjoy the lodgings and prepared food included. Numbers of participants are deliberately kept small, a definite advantage. Dear Ward. I want to thank Walking The World for introducing me to the wonderful country of Costa Rica. I immediately fell in love with its people, landscape, food, culture and concern for the environment. I have made two trips with Walking The World to Costa Rica and plan to take more when available. It is a rare experience to be able to share a couple of weeks with persons of like mind and to be traveling in a country that offers what I, as a senior citizen, would want on a trip.
If good food, companionship, and great hiking fit your idea of a superb travel experience, with only a short flight from the United States, then this is the trip for you. I won't mention all the laughter that leaves one feeling great at the end of the day, but it's an important part of the trip.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Walking The World for adventure travel to Costa Rica ! As a semiretired and seasoned world traveler, I can now say that I have had the pleasure of traveling 'alone,' yet with a group for the first time in my life. I have lived in a four countries and have traveled to many, many more over the course of the last 30 years. My husband was an incredibly fun travel partner with whom I enjoyed visiting many art galleries, restaurants, churches and temples around the world. When he passed away, I thought that my travel days had come to an end. Yet, wanting to continue to stay fit, I started to explore the local hiking trails alone and with he Wasatch Mountain Club in Utah. It is through that organization that I learned about an upcoming 11 day/10 night trip to Costa Rica. I said to myself, "Why not, just give it a go!" In that I had started to cultivate my new love for the outdoors, I found the trip to Costa Rica unparalleled for in the following areas: Viewing wildlife: Howler and white-faced monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, toucans, butterflies, nesting loggerhead turtles, kuala mundas, leaf cutting ants, hummingbirds, frogs and much more! Experiencing the local culture: In an effort to learn as much as possible from Oscar, our local guide, I made it a point to hike near and sit close by to him as often as I could. He shared his knowledge of Costa Rica's history, biology, geology and cultural with us every step of the way. Most impressive was our visit to the local 'gauchos' to see an exhibition of barrel racing and roping, eco-friendly cattle and farming ranches. Photographing flora and fauna: Never before have I been so close to nature that I could easily photograph waterfalls, 'live fences', flowers, beaches, my new friends riding the 'zip lines', volcanoes, craters, beautiful hiking paths and more! Finally, I can say that I had the opportunity to sample a plethora of new foods and yet, since we were so very active on the trip, I came home at the same weight AND energized to keep hiking! Yes, I have a goal to travel again to Costa Rica with Walking The World trusting that I'll be enriched by my fellow travelers, enthralled by my local guide and entertained by the best show on earth, 'Mother Nature'!
