ITINERARY: (May be changed at the discretion of the trip leader.)

Pre-Trip.  The trip officially begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.  We strongly recommend that you arrive in Switzerland today to better adjust to jet lag and to ensure that there are no problems with late flight arrivals.  Accommodations can be arranged for you.

Day 1   Trip begins at 8:00 a.m. after breakfast. Enjoy a scenic trip by train to Wengen.  Then we’ll settle in and get acquainted.  Wengen will be our home for the next six nights.  From Wengen, we’ll be able to explore many of the surrounding towns and valleys, including Grutschalp, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, all by public transportation.  Enjoy a stroll around Wengen.

Day 2   After breakfast we’ll take the train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen before boarding a cable car to the small town of Grutschalp.  From Grutschalp, well walk along the valley ridge to the picturesque high alpine village of Murren and enjoy our picnic lunch in lush, green meadows.  After a short stroll around Murren, we’ll head up to Allmendhubel for our hike back to Grutschalp.   During our hike, we’ll enjoy views of the massive, glacier covered and beautiful peaks of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau.

Day 3   We’re off to Mannlichen Mountain today, via a cable car up the mountain backing up to Wengen.  At the top, we’ll board the longest cable car in Europe for our trip to Grindelwald.  Here we’ll board another cable car to First for our walk to Bachalpsee and Bussalp.  Bring plenty of film today!

Day 4   Our second trip to Mannlichen finds us taking a different route, this time walking to Bustiglen and Kleine Scheidegg and back to Wengen via Wixi.  Lunch will be in Kleine Scheidegg where the Bratwurst and view of the surrounding peaks are unforgettable.  Our afternoon hike provides outstanding views of the Jungfrau on our way back to Wengen via Wixi.

Day 5   Free day.  You’re free to use your rail pass to explore the surrounding towns or join our guides for a train to the Jungfraujoch.

Day 6   Our last hike in this area will find us back in Grutschalp, but this time we’ll head to Sausmatten and the Lobhornhutte.  A memorable day.

Day 7   Today we move to Zermatt.  Relax and enjoy the fantastic scenery!

Day 8   We’re sure you’ve heard of the Matterhorn.  It is, indeed, as beautiful as the pictures you’ve seen. Today we’ll cable to Schwarzsee, just below the Matterhorn, and follow a trail around the Matterhorn’s base, and back through the small village of Zmutt for a bit of hot apple strudel.

Day 9   We’ll board our train to Gornergrat.  This high Alpine area is surrounded by glaciers and situated under the Monte Rosa.  On our walk back to Zermatt we’ll see lakes with crystal-clear reflections of the Matterhorn and sightings of wild ibex and marmot.  You’ll find your walk along a trail just above the Findelngletscher Glacier incomparable.

Day 10 A cable car will take us to Sunnegga for our walk to Rothorn, Findeln, Grunsee and Riffelalp.  Today we’ll treat ourselves to fruit pie and iced chocolate while we soak in the stunning Alpine views.

Day 11 Return midmorning to Zurich.  You’ll have several free hours in Zurich for shopping or a boat ride on Lake Zurich.  Final dinner and farewell.

Day 12 To airport for flights home.  Departing flights may be booked for any time today.
